Painting the Rebbe comes with its own set of anxieties. The more aware you are of what you’re doing, the more serious the process can feel, and that tension definitely finds its way into the work.
That being said, I try to find ways to keep things light and nostalgic. I really enjoyed leaning into the vintage tones of this aging photograph and letting the softness and warmth of the image guide the painting.
I hope the painting carries that warmth and joy to the viewer
